Our life may seem hard with countless decisions to make, unexpected events, etc., but there is a way to lessen the emotional stress that comes with is and make your life simpler and happier. Here are 10 tips to incorporate into your life to help you do that.
1. Limit your social media use
Now a days we are consistently comparing our lives to everyone we see on social media but what we often forget is that social media is a highlight reel- it only shows the best parts of someone’s life. Being mindful of how much time you spend on social media and setting a time limit on the apps will help significantly.
2. Remove toxic people from your life
This is often easier said than done but often this could be done over time. Identify which people bring you down or have negative energy (yes, this includes people on social media as well), and figure out a way to set limits on spending time with them (or just unfollow/mute them if you are following them via social media).
3. Switch your phone off an hour before bed
Setting a night routine not involving your phone will decrease the blue light radiation and in return help you sleep faster and better. Also setting your phone away will make you more mindful to stay in the present moment. Here is one of my favorite night journals to write down last minute thoughts and to-dos so you do not reach into your phone.
4. Take a walk outdoors
It is important to take breaks throughout your day and a great way to do that (and get vitamin D & steps in as an added bonus) is to take a walk outdoors. This will ground you and reconnect you back to nature, showing us that whatever problem we may be having that day, is minimal compared to how huge earth is.
5. Declutter space and donate what you don’t use anymore
Studies have shown that decluttering your space will clear up your mind, reduce anxiety, and make you feel energized. It can also help us with focusing on a task, therefore once finished, increasing our confidence. A good way to tackle clutter is by starting small and accessing if the objects ‘spark joy’ as taught with the konmari method.
6. Eat more whole foods
Eating whole foods will make you feel more energized, improve mood and mental health. Aiming to eat 70-80% of whole foods throughout your week and whatever you want for the rest will keep a healthy balance. As you start to implement this method, you will see positive changes such as breaking out less and consistent energy levels that will keep you going!
7. Pick up a new hobby of interest
Picking up a new hobby of interest has plenty of benefits including reducing stress, improving physical health, finding a new community, and prevent you from creating bad habits. Feel free to try plenty of hobbies that interest you at first and then focus on the one you love most!
